Numbers and figures, figures and numbers

Something a little different. These numbers were taken from the giftofhope.org webb site and they appear to come from the OPTN.org data.

  • Every 13 minutes, a new person is added to the national waiting list.
  • An average of 18 people die each day while waiting.
  • More than 4,800 people died waiting for an organ transplant in 2005.
  • In 2005, more than 242 people registered for transplants died while waiting.
  • One donor can save or enhance the lives of mor
  • e than 25 people.

Are you an organ donor? Have you told your family?

Hi - I'm weeks overdue to comment here to say how sorry I am that you were declined as a donor (although it's nice to hear that your spleen is normal, that you're [ ] a pleasant guy, and that your ... um, other parts are "down and okay.")

For anyone reading this, I share the fierce hope that more poeple will understand the benefits of making a firm decision to being an organ donor upon death. THANK YOU for the statistics, which say so much!

I'm continuing to hope and pray you find a donor soon. And thanks for giftofhope.org link -- didn't know about that one yet!
